In this week’s CornTalk, Brian West, of West Energy and Environment Associates LLC. Brian has been working alongside corn organizations including Missouri Corn, in a recent court challenge to correct EPA’s outdated R-Factor. The agency’s antiquated method for determining R-Factor deters auto manufacturers from building more efficient vehicles for higher blends, penalizing ethanol and creating a roadblock for increased demand. Siding with state corn grower associations, the Fifth Circuit judge ruled EPA ignored key points in setting the R-Factor, requiring the agency to go back to the drawing board. Missouri Corn and partners will continue pushing for sound science and a clear path to increased ethanol demand in the marketplace.
