Corn Growers Celebrate Senate Passage Of Key Trade Pact

Posted on: January 16, 2020

Missouri Corn Growers Association President Mike Moreland of Harrisonville, Mo., released the following statement regarding today’s passage of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) by the U.S. Senate. It now goes to the president’s desk and will take effect once ratified by Canada’s House of Commons.

“On the heels of signing yesterday’s agreement with China, corn growers can celebrate the ratification of another crucial trade pact with today’s Senate passage of the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement. Our neighbors to the north and south are vital trading partners for Missouri corn farmers.

“The hard work of those from D.C., to the cornfield who made calls, talked to elected officials, participated in trade missions, and other valuable activities, helped reinforce the importance of trade to American agriculture. Today’s overwhelming bipartisan support shows we got our message across. We thank Sens. Roy Blunt and Josh Hawley for standing strong with Missouri farmers to secure this crucial trade agreement and look forward to seeing it receive President Trump’s final seal of approval.”
