House Approval Of Trade Deal Positive Progress For Corn Growers
(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.)–Missouri Corn Growers Association (MCGA) President Mike Moreland of Harrisonville released the following statement regarding today’s passage of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) by the U.S. House of Representatives:
“After months of waiting, Missouri Corn Growers Association applauds the U.S. House of Representatives for passing the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. The new trade deal, initiated by the Trump Administration, has been a top priority for corn growers and this forward progress provides some much-needed good news.”
Mexico is the number one buyer of U.S. corn, purchasing 25 percent of corn exports. In the 2018-19 marketing year, Canada ranked second in U.S. ethanol purchases, fifth for corn and seventh in distiller’s dried grains with solubles. These markets are imperative to the Missouri corn farmer, and USMCA makes a good partnership better by maintaining market access while bringing NAFTA into the 21st century.
“We greatly appreciate the strong support of Missouri’s delegation in the U.S. House of Representatives. We’d like to thank Reps. Ann Wagner (R), Blaine Luetkemeyer (R), Vicky Hartzler (R), Emanuel Cleaver (D), Sam Graves (R), Billy Long (R), and Jason Smith (R) for voting yes on this important trade policy. It must now move through the Senate for a straight up-or-down vote. MCGA will continue urging lawmakers to pass USMCA and provide farmers with certainty and instill confidence in future trading partners.”
