President Delivers On E15 Promise

The following statement is from Missouri Corn Growers Association President Mark Scott of Wentzville regarding the finalized rule allowing year-round sales of ethanol blends up to 15 percent (E15):

“Missouri corn farmers welcome this good news giving drivers a cost-effective, high-octane, cleaner choice at the pump. Securing year-round access to E15 has been a priority for the Missouri Corn Growers Association. We have long said the Environmental Protection Agency had the legal authority to grant the Reid Vapor Pressure waiver and allow an American-made fuel to compete in the marketplace.  

“Nearly 90 percent of vehicles on the road today are 2001 or newer and approved for E15 use. Before this rule was finalized, fuel retailers had to remove E15 from their pumps during the peak driving season. Missouri corn farmers are excited for drivers to have this option and experience lower fuel prices while reducing emissions, improving air quality, and providing greater greenhouse gas reductions.

“The Missouri Corn Growers Association supports any efforts to build corn demand, whether through higher blends of ethanol, increasing livestock usage, or strengthening markets overseas. Moving forward, we ask EPA to stop granting small refinery waivers to oil refineries boasting six-digit profits and be transparent in the process. At the same time, we will continue working with our partners in the ethanol and auto industries to ensure the next generation of vehicles are optimized to run on higher blends of American-made, renewable fuels.”
