Missouri Corn Growers Endorse Koster For Governor

(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.)–The Missouri Corn Growers Association (MCGA) board of directors voted Aug. 5 to endorse Attorney General Chris Koster in his bid for governor. 

A membership-based organization representing corn farmers across the state, MCGA endorses candidates with proven records on policy issues impacting corn growers. Attorney General Koster’s statewide efforts in supporting the 2014 Missouri Farming Rights Amendment was cited when discussing his exemplary commitment to the state’s top industry. A strong pro-agriculture voting record while serving in the Missouri Senate, recent efforts to push back against the Environmental Protection Agency on the Waters of the United States rule and battles against the state of California’s unfair practices of banning Missouri agriculture products such as corn-based ethanol and eggs were also considered in the endorsement.

“MCGA’s policy is to do our best job supporting political leaders on both sides of the aisle who are proven champions of Missouri’s corn farmers,” said MCGA President Morris Heitman, a corn grower from Mound City, Mo. “Attorney General Koster’s record of supporting agriculture is unquestionable. We are confident he will continue to work in the best interest of Missouri’s farm families and are proud to support him in the race for Missouri governor.”

Attorney General Koster’s longstanding support of Missouri corn growers and the state’s majority farmer-owned ethanol industry has also garnered several past awards including Friend of Corn Growers Award in 2011 and Public Servant Award in 2014. MCGA has endorsed U.S. Senator Roy Blunt for re-election as well as Sen. Mike Parson in the race for lieutenant governor.
