Posted on: April 11, 2024

(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.)—The Missouri Corn Growers Association (MCGA), a membership-based organization representing corn farmers across the state, today endorsed Kurt Schaefer to represent Missouri’s 3rd Congressional District. If elected, Schaefer will fill the seat held by Blaine Luetkemeyer, who has announced his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives.

“We extend our thanks to Congressman Luetkemeyer for his dedication to corn growers and recognize he is leaving some big shoes to fill,” says MCGA President Brent Hoerr, a corn grower from Palmyra, Mo. “Kurt Schaefer, who practices environmental and agriculture law, has been a champion for Missouri corn growers during his time serving in the Missouri Senate and in his professional career. We are confident he will relentlessly advocate for agriculture if elected to Congress. From reigning in regulatory overreach to fighting for river management, trade, and ethanol, he stands firm on crucial corn-related issues and understands the importance of cultivating a bright future for farming. We’re confident Kurt will put his expertise and skills to work to help get things done in Washington, D.C.”

To receive an endorsement from MCGA, Schaefer had to meet criteria established by the organization’s board of directors. These standards include a strong voting record on MCGA’s top issues. Schaefer was also recognized with the association’s Friend of Corn Award and Public Servant Award during his tenure in the Missouri Senate for his strong support of the state’s growing ethanol industry.

“I am honored to receive the endorsement of the Missouri Corn Growers,” Schaefer notes. “As a state, Missouri has the unique opportunity to be a national agricultural leader in Congress. As Missouri’s next Congressman from the 3rd district, I will work to advance our national energy independence through investments in ethanol and fight to ensure the Missouri River remains a viable resource for navigation and flood control management. I look forward to continuing my work with Missouri Corn Growers in Congress.”

MCGA has also endorsed current Lt. Gov. Mike Kehoe for governor and Sen. Lincoln Hough for lieutenant governor ahead of the 2024 statewide election.

The Missouri Corn Growers Association was formed in 1978 to advance policies that will help protect the rights of members, build new markets for corn, and increase opportunities through partnerships within agriculture and beyond. To learn more, visit www.mocorn.org
