Missouri Agriculture Groups’ Joint Statement on Senate Bill 391

Posted on: May 1, 2019

The following is a joint statement by Missouri Farm Bureau, Missouri Cattlemen’s Association, Missouri Pork Association, Missouri Soybean Association and Missouri Corn Growers Association:

The Missouri Senate’s perfection of SB 391 is a tremendous initial victory for Missouri’s farming and ranching families. Ensuring our animals are cared for under science-based regulations and expert oversight is best for their welfare and for our environment. Uniform regulations will help provide opportunities for young and old alike to be involved in agriculture and stay on the family farm.

We appreciate Senator Bernskoetter’s leadership on this issue. In the face of wild accusations based on sowing fear rather than following science, he stood strong over hours of debate and advanced this important cause. Majority Floor Leader Senator Caleb Rowden was instrumental in moving this bill forward and pushing back against false accusations and fearmongering by activist opponents.

We look forward to the final vote in the Senate before we work with members of the Missouri House of Representatives and Governor Parson to get this bill across the finish line and enact it into law.
