Missouri Corn Wins NCGA Membership Award Three Years In A Row; Korff Named Top Recruiter
(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.)–The Missouri Corn Growers Association (MCGA) was recognized for achieving the highest numeric increase and largest percentage increase in membership among the 28 National Corn Growers Association (NCGA)-affiliated states in 2012 during the annual NCGA Awards Banquet at the 2013 Commodity Classic in Kissimmee, Fla., March 1. Sweeping the top awards for the third consecutive year, MCGA membership increased by 349 members in 2012, up 16 percent from the previous year.
“Missouri couldn’t have been honored with a greater award,” noted Missouri Corn CEO Gary Marshall. “Our board and staff are dedicated to growing corn markets and representing farmers on key agricultural issues and a strong membership is core to our success as an organization. We constantly strive to engage more members and industry partners and this growth shows farmers are recognizing the importance of being involved and working together to move the industry forward.”
MCGA President Rob Korff, a corn farmer from Norborne, Mo., was also recognized during the banquet as the Top National Recruiter for NCGA. Korff earned the top honors through his efforts in recruiting members in the Show-Me State. Contributing to his success, he recruited members in 2012 by hosting several events in his district including a fish fry, golf tournament and sporting clays shoot.
“A strong membership base is vital to grassroots strength,” said Korff. “The Corn Growers is an organization of amazing people who share a passion and a common goal: to advance, promote and defend the corn, livestock and ethanol industries and all of agriculture. In order to succeed we must stay engaged, and a strong membership provides us a louder voice.”
In addition Billy Thiel, past MCGA President and farmer from Malta Bend, Mo., took home second place recruiting honors amongst members of the NCGA Recruiter Hall of Fame. Thiel was inducted to the Hall of Fame last year, an honor bestowed on individuals who have excelled in recruiting new corn grower members. Thiel is only the second Missouri corn grower to receive this prestigious recognition.
MCGA is comprised of over 2,500 members dedicated to growing and defending the corn industry.
